Feeling healthy and feeling good about yourself is not a luxury - it’s an absolute necessity.

Welcome to Feeling of Wellness!

Hello!  My name is Melissa Maze.  And Feeling of Wellness was created based on my passion for healthy living, nutrition, anti-aging and disease prevention.

My purpose for this site is to share information in order to make a difference.  The goal is also to help more people understand the importance of taking steps towards living a healthier lifestyle in order to improve quality of life.

In 2009 my father passed away from heart disease at the age of 69.  It was after this life-changing event that I decided to focus my attention towards helping and inspiring other people.  Like so many people out there, my father worked hard to take care of his family, enjoyed good food, and living life on his own terms.

When he was diagnosed with this disease many years ago, his doctor prescribed daily medication, scheduled routine doctor’s visits and encouraged lifestyle changes.  My father took his medication and kept his doctor’s appointments.  Unfortunately, he faced challenges with making the necessary changes to his lifestyle in terms of bad foods choices, lack of exercise and other toxins.

Today our society is experiencing an increased epidemic of disease and illness.  And many medical research studies have proven that unhealthy lifestyle choices gravely affect these diseases.  We are living with more stress, toxic environments, challenges to eat healthier meals, and lack of adequate physical activity.

High Cholesterol

Too much cholesterol in the blood can lead to heart disease and stroke - - - America’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers.

The very first chapter of the book ‘Selling Sickness:  How the World’s Biggest Pharmaceutical Companies Are Turning Us All Into Patients’ talks about high cholesterol.  The author states "the fear of a condition called 'high cholesterol' has quickly come to dominate the personal health concerns of tens of millions of people around the globe.  For those selling pills, promoting that fear has paid off handsomely; and nations everywhere have spent more on cholesterol-lowering drugs in recent years than any other category of prescription medicines."

Why subject your body to the dangerous side effects of drugs if you don’t have to?  You can reduce cholesterol in your blood by eating healthful foods, losing weight if you need to and being physically active.

Obesity

Obesity is a disease that must be taken seriously.  It is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, certain types of cancer, and type 2 diabetes.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention American society has become 'obesogenic,' characterized by environments that promote increased food intake, non-healthful foods, and physical inactivity.  US Obesity Trends 2008 statistics report that the United States has seen a dramatic increase in obesity during the past 20 years.

Diabetes

Did you know that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated total cost of diabetes in the United States for 2007 at $174 billion?  This includes indirect costs of $58 billion for disability, work loss, and premature mortality.

In 2007 it was reported by the CDC that 24 million Americans had diabetes, and with obesity on the rise millions more are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Research studies have found that moderate weight loss and exercise can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes among adults at high-risk of diabetes.

So what does this mean?

All of the evidence stated here clearly shows the importance of taking an approach to caring for one’s health by placing emphasis on preventing illness; thereby prolonging quality of life.

The truth is we all know that we should take better care of ourselves.  We know that we should make healthier food choices, exercise more, and practice healthier relaxation and stress management techniques.

Hopefully, the information shared on this site will inspire you to be motivated towards healthier living.  By making healthier choices you can create lean body mass, reduce your body fat, minimize the effects of aging, reduce risks of chronic diseases and improve your quality of life.

It is my personal belief that most pharmaceutical drugs are dangerous.  Drugs do not cure the disease.  They only mask the symptoms.  And the potential side effects and risks from prolonged use are dangerous to our bodies.

It is possible to reverse some illnesses, but we should take more control of our health by leading a lifestyle that would prevent illnesses in the first place.  Just think about the money you will save by living healthier; less visits to the doctors and less expenses for medication.
